PS3 launches in Japan

Wow! it is finally out although for us in the Uk we still have months to wait before we can officially get our hand son it but for those lucky enough tp live in Japan they are now enjoying the new Playstation 3!

The console officially went on sale on 11 November but Sony only made 100,000 machines available on launch day.

The BBC has reported that due to the overwhelming responce to the PS3 they were turning away people form the stores even before they were open. Obviously they decided to wait to get the PS3 instead of buying the XBOX 360 (Good Choice! )

The PlayStation 3 (PS3) is being sold in two configurations. The more expensive version has a 60GB hard drive and wi-fi on board and costs, in Japan, 60,000 yen (£270). The cheaper version has a 20GB hard drive, lacks the wi-fi and will cost 49,980 yen (£222). European prices are expected to be higher than direct comparisons suggest.

PS3 packaging

The packaging for the PS3 makes the 60gb version look pretty nice.

Sony Computer Entertainment America on Thurs. dropped final retail packaging pictures for the 20GB and 60GB Playstation 3 SKUs.
The final retail box features a side shot of the PS3 hardware and an indication of the 20GB or 60GB version in the lower left-hand corner.
Sony will release the PS3 at $499 for the 20GB SKU and $599 for the 60GB SKU. Both versions will include a Blu-ray disc player and HDMI support.
Launch titles will include Resistance: Fall of Man, Warhawk, Namco’s Ridge Racer 7 and Activision’s Call of Duty 3.

When did you get yours?

I got my PS2 slightly later than most as i coouldnt afford the price tag at the time.When did you get your PS2?
I got mine from choices video store as they had a great deal on i got a rf lead 2 controllers which was ace as it was the first dual shock ones if i remember correctly. i also got a free game and a free dvd movie for around £300.00 i was so happy i couldnt wait to get home to play SSX snowboaridng it was a wicked game. i couldnt stop playing it and i completed it pretty quickly.
Metal Gear Solid had to be one of the best games on the PS2 i wonder if it will be even better on the PS3?

The waiting game

OK the PS3 is set to be outstanding with almost everything a gamer wants plus a bit more, but do we wait and wait or do we get the XBOX 360? recently playing on the XBOX 360 I was blown away by the graphics and the games are very good and it did give me an itch to just go out and get the XBOX 360 but what should I think about to stop me from doing this?

The list of games for the PS3 are very good but most of the gaems are also on the XBOX 360. At the moment we are looking at early next year for the release of the PS3 and with a big fat price of around £500 which is big wad of cash. With the XBOX 360 no where near as expensive and with the same kind of spec is it worth the £500?

Game prices speculation

With the PS3 release getting closer how much will the games be?
there have been rumours of £60 but with the price of the XBOX360 games at £50 im sure they will be priced to compete even thoough they will be on blueray discs.

With rpices in Japan coming out at just over 5000 yen (about $40 usd) who knows what the prices in the UK will be.

Games saves from ps2 to ps3

Speculation regarding how PS2 and PSOne saves will be transferred to the PlayStation 3 has been going around the web for some time. The reason this was a confusing issue was because PlayStation 3 does not include any slots to support the current memory card. The reader that is included with the 60GB PS3 is compatible with Memory Stick, SD and CompactFlash.

Sony plan to use an adapter.
Whether the adapter will be included with the PlayStation 3 is unknown. Probably not, because Sony have a nasty habit of making us pay extra for accessories like the multi tap which could have been incorporated into the design. This is a shame as previous saves from PSOne to PS2 were easily transferred and required no extra adapter and no more money to be spent.

Blu-ray launched

Sony has finally launched the Blu-ray format to the public with the first seven titles going on sale. The first player will be shortly on sale which seems a bit backward. In the mean time if you spin them on your finger you wont see any thing :)

With both Blue-ray and HD-DVD on sale the battle is now on to replace DVD.
Whihc one will win? i like the Blu-ray disks and i love the idea of having all that space to use. IMagine the movies in the future.

Half life 2

Half Life 2 has been confirmed as game to be released on the PS3 but is it really a good thing?

Episode One and Episode Two are the first chapters of a planned trio of episodic add-ons to the original Half-Life 2. Of particular interest is a single-player game called "Portal," which will come bundled with Episode Two. Portal lets players use a special gun to create gateways similar to those used in Prey. A player could create a portal nearby, for instance, and then make a second portal on the other side of a chasm; walking through the first would transport him safely out the second. Unlike Prey, however, it seems players can dynamically create an unlimited number of portals on just about any surface available. The demo on display showed dozens of ways players could exploit this new technology both in terms of offensive and defensive strategies. Valve has yet to announce which games will use the new technology, but players can get taste of it when Episode Two ships.

It seems it's not really Half Life 2 that will be good but its addons.
When i first heard it would be available on the PS3 i wasnt exactly thrilled as it isnt new but with these new addons to be realeased it will be something to look out for.
